Being mindful

  Mindful? Do you mind? Often heard when one unconsciously pries into the affairs of another. “Hey, do you mind, that’s my food!” “Hey, do you mind? That is personal!” “Hey, do you mind minding your own business?!” Mindfulness or being mindful is therefore being conscious. What does it mean to be conscious? It means to be aware, to be awake and to be alive. Are we mindful today? Mindful of our resting, mindful of our nourishment, mindful of our peace, mindful of our relations and our world? The world is so chaotic, moving at mind-numbing speed that we consciously forgo mindfulness, because deep down we know mindfulness requires an investment of time and self. Who has time and interest in self – our current world revolves around focusing on the next best thing to satisfy our next short window of joy. Everything is so in the moment that you forget to invest in that moment or care enough for it to last longer. Therefore, mindfulness is simple. Stop and invest in your SELF . Stop and

Cheating no sin

  The mood to cheat isn’t something that really exists. Why does married one cheat? Because I was in the mood? No, it doesn’t work like that. Intentional cheating is rare, and often unfulfilling, creating a hollow and shallow experience. It leaves the one who is cheating with an empty feeling. So, why do married people cheat then? These are people who often miss something in their life. It could be the excitement of youth, the pre-marital freedom, the need to be wanted, the need to feel alive. In any of those cases, while cheating is not the warranted solution, it is often the relief one seeks to break out of a monotonous life brought on by dissatisfaction of what is present – to them, cheating provides the temporary escape into wonderland, away from the dissatisfaction. Should then be cheating viewed as a cardinal sin? My journey for truth.

The Journalist turned teacher.... Journalism and teaching are strangely entwined... both pursue truth. Both allow for freedom of speech, and both require a sense of integrity and dedication to succeed. When I decide to sidetrack my main career - Journalism - to follow motherhood for a while, I believed I would see myself two years later working at a desk, pouring myself over copies to edit, and sipping endless cups of coffee that kept me going like a Porsche! A vision of the stereotypical journalist - a femme version of a la Jonah Jameson, so to speak. Two years later, I am living this vision (real time!) - pouring over copies to edit, and sipping cups of green tea (I took a detour from coffee to pursue the miracle drink in hopes to keep my sagging skin and spirits high!). However, in this real-time vision, there has been a change - I edit copies written by High School students. Yes, I am a teacher now... teaching high schoolers, Journalism.
